Most of the late numbers were of the convertibles, beginning in late 1962. From 339389 to 340086 there were about 700 made with XR3RED grip frames, and after that they were marked 'Ruger.22 Cal. This medium allowed a whole new generation of kids to enjoy the old B westerns of earlier decades. In the decade of the '50s, Westerns were all the rage both in the theater and on the new fangled television. Designed in 1953, the Single-Six was Ruger's first revolver, following the initial success in 1949 of Bill Ruger's Mark I semi-auto.22LR pistol.

The 22 only guns had a different barrel bore size then the convertibles, before serial number 150000. According to the book Know your Ruger Single Action Revolvers 1953-1963, Jan 1961was when the convertible 22s started showing up, serial number range 1734XX. The serial number on my gun has a letter in front of the number and I'm not seeing anything like that on the Ruger Website. I have been trying to date it with the serial number on the Ruger Website but I'm having a problem. I bought a nice Old Model Single-Six today to have some fun with.
